Design for Life Program

Over all four years, the Design for Life program guides students in developing self-understanding, shaping their future with passion, purpose, and meaning at the center. Paired with academic advisory in an 8:1 student-to-staff model, the Design for Life course offers individualized support while also maintaining a consistent connection between student and community.

Our why? We believe that educational institutions should support students' preparation for life beyond school, tapping into the social-emotional needs and potential of students as human beings. Through a combination of reflection, creativity, communication, and future planning, students build the tools they need to thrive in school, work, and their communities.

Design Programs

From fashion and graphic design to studio art and music production, New Design teaches students how to master the design process, enabling them to produce high-quality works that build portfolios that set them apart from their competition.

We believe that creativity drives the future. Our growing design programs provide robust opportunities for students to explore the world of the arts.

In a world of consumers, we build creators.

Elective Program

The Elective Program gives students the freedom to explore their interests, discover new talents, and connect their learning to the real world. From art and design to technology, social impact, and entrepreneurship, electives encourage creativity and critical thinking.

Baked into the school day, electives are designed to help students build general skills like collaboration, problem-solving, and professionalism while uncovering passions that may shape their future college or career paths.

The program continues to grow each year, offering fresh opportunities for students to design their own learning journey and find joy in discovery.

College & Career Readiness Programs

We partner with pros like Guiding & Connecting for Student Achievement and the Chinese-American Planning Council to prepare students for life beyond high school. Our College and Career Readiness (CCR) programs help students build skills and earn credentials by providing opportunities to explore future pathways through coursework, advising, and real-world experiences.

Students can earn scholarships, access to college-level courses, workshops, mentorship, and in-the-field work experience, both through programming built into the school day and after-school offerings.

At New Design, we help every student find their next step.

Work-based Learning Program

We’re closing the gap between potential and paycheck—because we know our students aren’t just preparing for life, they’re already living it.

Our growing internship program propels work-based learning to the forefront for our upperclassmen, with opportunities that expose students to their desired career fields. Through partnerships like DYCD's Learn and Earn program, New Design students are paid to learn skills in administration, hospitality, and education that bolster their resumes while gaining access to college-level courses as well as real-world certifications.

The end-game? Placing students at real-world job posts for after-school hours.
