Design Department |
The
mission of the Design program at NDHS is to develop the communal
themes of the school, to model problem solving using the design process, and
to provide motivation for students to improve their holistic and academic
skills. The mission is woven into design topics that include; Graphic Design,
Architecture, Fashion, Interior Design, and Industrial Design. At NDHS
students get the fundamentals in communicating using the visual language of
text, image, color, shape, and form.
Students are enrolled in four years of design. |

Fitness for Life |
The Fitness
for Life program promotes physical activity, healthy eating and living. Attention is directed toward awareness
and movement toward the healthy
options in life, as well as the
development of social skills such as cooperation, competition and
sportsmanship. Classes and
courses are structured to allow for the improvement in numerous physical
skills necessary for many different physical activities. |

Social Studies |
The primary
goal of the Social Studies Department is to empower students with both the
knowledge and skills to become critical, reflective, and active participants
both locally and globally. This
goal will be attained by adhering to a philosophy of transparency,
translation and transformation where students discover the underlying
structures hidden beneath events in history. Students are asked to read, interpret and be critical of a
variety of sources, so that we can begin to construct meaning and value. Students will link what is learned to
practice, thus using this knowledge to empower themselves and others. Students are enrolled in four years
of social studies courses at NDHS. |

Spanish Department |
Students must
complete two years of Spanish to graduate from NDHS usually in their 10th
and 11th grade years.
Department courses intend to increase the presence of Spanish language
and Spanish culture of NDHS. The program focuses
on creating a learning community where students consistently share, build off
and learn from each other’s ideas |

Design for Life Program |
The D4L
program provides students with the skills, tools and capacities to empower
and awaken self-awareness and raise consciousness about life’s choices and
opportunities. All NDHS students
are enrolled in D4L all four years.
The advisory type program meets 5 minutes every morning and 10 minutes
every afternoon. D4L teachers
act as advisors for students each year mentoring students socially,
emotionally and academically. |

Design Your Life Class |
All
12th grade students take DYL class.
The course aims to provide seniors with a developmentally
appropriate set of skills and practices that will help them successfully
navigate senior year and the transition to college, as well as be equipped to
handle the unknowns of adulthood that lie ahead. |

Summer Credit Recovery
Programs |
SCR program
are focused on summer credit recovery for students who have failed classes
during fall and spring semesters.
The program was created to create an alternative learning experience
for students who failed a more traditional school program. The sessions are interdisciplinary
and design rich to ensure students have an incredibly rich and transformative
experience |
